I'll start waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back at the beginning! lol! My first experience with computers, networks, and the internet was at work. I remember when we first got email and how excited I was! lol They used Banyan at the time, and also included a chat feature the linked the west coast users which at the time, I thought was just the coolest thing.
The next step was to get access to the internet. This as back when it was still Mozilla. I was so new... green! lol! At that time only one or two people within each section were allowed access to the internet. I was one of the lucky ones! I remember the tech guy telling me to use WebCrawler for searching. I also remember my first major panic attack! There weren't firewalls back then.. but they claimed to know what we were doing. Well being a newbie.. I was just surfing around looking for stuff that was close to me. Once of the important things in my life at that time was my twin nieces (you see where this is going?) So I put in "twins" and all these links come back. Now I can see right off the bat that some are NOT what I want. However I clicked on this one and WHOA! I closed it so quick and immediately got on the phone and called "confessing!" lol! I was told not to worry... phew!
I got more proficient on the web as time went on even though I still didn't have a computer at home. (I didn't think we needed one) I used the internet to reseach EVERYTHING from cars we wanted to buy, to where we wanted to get married, to which dog to get. (But I still didn't think we needed a computer at home *smacks forehead*)
Then in the fall of 1998, we decided it was time to get a computer at home, which developed into two computers (to prevent a divorce! lol!) Hubby had always said that once we got a computer, we would make Brie a website, like the many lovely ones we still continued to look at. Originally it was hubby's project. He was going to be the webmaster of "Briez' Page". However, hubby didn't like the program we were using at the time PageMill. So I took over and thus was the beginning of what is now: www.desertsamoyeds.com. What started out as just a couple of pages of an online web album grew into many, many pages as I could never bring myself to remove the old pics, so I would just add pics as I acquired them. Along the line I added Kassie's page, then Tyler's page and soon to add the new kitty's page It was last fall that I finally decided to get them their own domain! Wow! That felt good! lol! I was SO excited the first time I typed in www.desertsamoyeds.com and it came up! Kinda like the first time you walk into your own house (ok.. maybe not quite that exciting)
I had been slacking on their site, but getting their domain, of course, renewed my interest in working on their site. When I was looking for some new, pretty graphics to update and add to their pages, I found so many that I loved but weren't dog related along with all the adorable adoptions! I didn't want to "clutter" up the dogs' site with a bunch of non-dog/pet related adoptions, thus was born caligurl.com! I started it for a place to use graphics and as a home for my adoptions. Brie and Tyler are generous enough to allow me to be a subdomain of their page! So you see: I'm just a tenant and my dogs really ARE boss! lol!
I learned and still learn all my little tricks from the internet and a lot of trial and error. I've yelled, screamed, and yes... cussed at my computer when something doesn't work (especially if it worked at one time!) I've had LOTS of headaches.. but I've also had so much fun!
