Before…… and After……
Obviously the above and below pics are “Before” with the old washer and dryer and dull, boring, white walls, plain cabinets….. BLAH
We didn’t want to go expensive on the cabinets, but we wanted something a bit nicer and more useable than what we had. The new cabinets are deeper so that they extend further out over the washer and dryer. I can use/reach the bottom shelves (barely) but I still have to get a step stool to reach the second shelves in each cabinet.
The cabinets over the freezer are shallow and shorter so I pretty much need a step stool. We had to go with shorter cabinets because all the new freezers are at least 3″ taller than ours and I have a feeling we’ll be needing a new one before too long. (Our freezer is about as the old washer and dryer were!) I haven’t decided yet what to put in the open shelf area. We also got, what I think, is a very cool light. The old one was just a plain white globe but my new room demanded a flashier light. I think we picked something appropriate! The three (CFL) bulbs also help to light up the room which is darker because of the red paint. Ahhhhh… the red paint! Quite daring! Picking that was so so sooooo scarey! At first I wanted red appliance. I thought they were HOT. Then I changed my mind and wanted silver. I thought silver was much more practical and would be so easy to find tile and wall colors. Wrong! We finally decided to stick with white appliances and put the bling on the wall. Decisions! Decisions! Even when buying the paint…. I got a bit of a tummy ache when I actually told the lady to mix up the paint.
Here’s the floor looking into the laundry room. We wanted something dramatic and this tile really fit the bill! I think it fits the washer and dryer perfectly. I like how it reflects it’s surroundings so that in some spots you see mauve from the red walls and in other areas you see the silver from the white appliances. The first pic was taken before we finished putting in the new base boards. By this time I was liking my room. (When we first started painting the walls I did not like it at all! I wondered “what have I done?????” But as we added more and more white back into the room with the blinds, mouldings, cabinets…. I fell in love! By the time it was ready for the washer and dryer to show up…. I thought I had one sexy, hot laundry room! lol! Well…. except for the ugly hot water heater!)
The following picture shows better how the floor looks depending on where you see it (and that’s before the appliances are in there. Unfortunately we’re still stuck with the ugly tank heater for now. I’m hoping by the end of the year to possible replace it with a tankless. I’m still torn on that because the reviews are pretty divided. If we don’t go tankless, I’m sure we’ll be looking at a replacement, regardless and it will be nicer looking than the current one.
And finally they are delivered and my laundry room is complete! This pic was taken the first evening and I was already on my third load of laundry! It’s hard to get decent photos that show everything in one picture because the room is so small.
I’m really happy with my new washer and dryer. It’s so much fun to do laundry! I won’t use all the features (like sanitize???? which takes between 2 and 3 hours to complete one cycle!?!) But I do like the idea of steam on the dryer to refresh clothes or de-wrinkle them! I like the Reduce Static setting on the dryer, too… which makes use of the steam. The washer is verrrry quiet even when spinning on high at 1400 RPMs! Plus between the extra storage space in the new cabinets and the drawers beneath the washer and dryer (still haven’t decided what to put in the one under the dryer???) I have more storage space than I know what to do with (for now!) The red walls really have become an accent as you don’t see much at all with the washer, dryer, freezer, cabinets, blinds and doors taking up most of the wall space. The largest area of red is directly across from the outside back door. I plan to get a nice picture for that when I come across one I like.
The new laundry room created more projects. We had wanted a new back door and new doors throughout the house for a while as the builder just put plain flat doors on. Before putting in the tile we needed to replace the back door and since the door to the laundry room was right there…. we had to replace that too…. then since the pantry and door to the garage are right next to that one… we had to replace that one! And now, of course, next in line is the rest of the doors in the house! Plus now that we have new doors with our new white…. that doesn’t match the boring white on the rooms we haven’t repainted yet…. so that means the dining room, living room, kitchen, our bedroom and both baths need to be painted (we already did the other two bedrooms). And of course I want the garage (my workout area) painted! It’s a vicious cycle!

Hi Caligurl! Well, it looks great! It really does make a difference when you add the white baseboard, etc… really sets it off. The cabinets look really nice and cleancut, too. You know, we have the identical light fixture in our two bathrooms. When we redid the middle bathroom with oil-rubbed bronze faucets, etc… I actually used a stain on the fixture and made it match. You wouldn’t know it didn’t come that way. The other bathroom is still the brushed chrome like yours. I think it’s cool looking, too. Here’s a thought for you water heater… could it be painted red? I’m sure there’s heat resistant paint. Or are you stuill planning on going tankless? Or another thought… we have a water heater blanket so you could go that route…
How did you like Survivor? What a dream cast! (((Hugz)))
